This is an announcement for customers operating the QFM app on Android devices. It does not affect users who are accessing QFM on an Android mobile device via a browser or an iOS installation of the QFM app.

Customers that are operating the QFM app on Android devices should be aware that effective 1st November 2018, Google will require that all new apps and updates to existing apps are compatible with the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system (OS) or higher.

From November, the Google Play store will only offer Oreo-compatible apps. Any non-Oreo device will be unable to receive app updates from the Google Play store. More details can be found on the Android website here. As you will appreciate, this situation is beyond our control and is a result of a shift in Google’s strategy.

This change will affect updates to the QFM app in addition to any other apps that you may be running on Android devices. If you believe this might also affect non-SWG apps that you are running, we recommend that you seek advice from the relevant suppliers.

The QFM app will continue to work on any Android mobile devices running older OS than Oreo, and will be supported until 31st May 2019. However from 1st November 2018 users will be unable to receive future upgrades via the Google Play store.

In order to continue to receive QFM app updates, it is therefore vitally important to:

  • Review all Android devices running the QFM app and verify that they are running the Oreo OS
  • Update any devices running older OS to Oreo before 1st November 2018
  • Ensure that the above checks are conducted for both tablet and smartphone devices running the QFM App

 

Support and Updates for Older Android Operating Systems

Service Works will continue to provide support for Android Marshmallow and Nougat OS until 31st May 2019, but we would encourage clients to move to Oreo as soon as possible. This will ensure that you are able to receive upgrades automatically via the Google Play store, providing prompt access to bug fixes and new QFM features.

Should you wish to continue to receive updates to the QFM app for Android devices running the Marshmallow and Nougat OS devices between 1st November 2018 and 31st May 2019, Service Works can provide this as a bespoke service*. Please speak with your Account Manager who can discuss your requirements further.

*Updates would be provided to a nominated individual within your organisation, who would be responsible for updating the QFM app on Android mobile devices. Updates will be provided for the Android Marshmallow and Nougat OS only, up to and including 31st May 2019. Service Works takes no responsibility for support issues arising from an incorrect version of the QFM app being applied and these would be chargeable under the terms of Service Works’ Support and Maintenance agreement. Service Works can provide a tailored installation support service at additional cost, subject to further discussions.
