Facilities managers take a varied view of Building Information Modeling (BIM). In 2013, a BIM4FM task group survey revealed that 62 per cent of the FM community believed that BIM could support FM delivery. In light of this, Service Works Group (SWG) has released a new white paper to help FMs embrace the technology by providing an overview of BIM in relation to FM. The paper discusses how integrating BIM with existing computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) systems can provide real, meaningful data that supports the FM function and wider organisation.
With fully collaborative 3D BIM becoming mandatory on all centrally procured public construction projects from April 2016, public sector FMs and their private sector partners should already be embracing the technology.
The white paper ‘Deriving Meaningful Data from FM Software & BIM Integration’ looks at:
- what BIM is, its background and an overview in relation to FM
- the benefits of integrating BIM with computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) systems
- how CAFM can be integrated with BIM
- the future of BIM and CAFM.
The document discusses how integrating BIM with CAFM can provide real, meaningful data that supports the FM function and wider organisation. It is targeted at the practising facilities professional with some knowledge of FM software and BIM who is interested in improving their knowledge on this important topic.
