Service Works Group wins contract to supply FM software to South Essex College

Service Works Group (SWG) has won a contract to provide its award-winning FM software solution, QFM to South Essex College of Further and Higher Education.

The college, which offers a variety of qualifications and course such as childcare, hairdressing, beauty therapy, motor vehicle engineering, media and business, catering, construction, engineering, health and social care, games development and sport, operates across four UK campuses in Basildon, Southend and Thurrock.

The campuses include comprehensive sporting facilities such as five-a-side football pitches, basketball, netball, badminton and squash courts and a fully equipped gym; specialist training facilities for beauty therapy, hairdressing and theatrical make-up; a purpose-built forklift truck training centre; a High-Definition television studio, a radio studio, a fully-equipped photographic studio and a journalism newsroom; together with science labs, an animal management centre, a sports lab and a 250-seat Performance Pod. There are also numerous restaurants and cafes, some staffed by the college’s catering students.

Prior to the introduction of QFM, Geoff Stedman, Head of Estates Services, at the college, used an Excel spreadsheet to manage facilities data. Now 13 core users within the facilities team will use QFM for a variety of facilities tasks.

The college is adopting a two-phased approach to the introduction of QFM. Initially the FM team will be using QFM to manage reactive maintenance; self service for any staff member to report reactive maintenance jobs; planned preventative maintenance; asset management; and property management. In the second phase, the team will use QFM Space to manage space utilisation; QFM Room Bookings to manage meeting rooms for staff; asbestos management; and QFM Mobile for the internal trades team.
