The introduction of new technologies such as BIM (Building Information Modelling), IoT (Internet of Things), Smart Buildings and AI (Artificial Intelligence) are widely discussed within the FM press, but how many of these are actually being embraced by the FM sector? Service Works Global’s 2018 FM software survey run in conjunction with FMJ, indicated that many of these technology trends are considered to be ‘hype’ and are still not on the list of priorities for many FMs.
However, one emerging trend that has a particularly high profile is BIM, which takes raw data and turns it into open, shareable asset information and in doing so, provides valuable intelligence about how a building will perform. And combined with 3D models of a building, provides facilities managers with essential information which can generate cost savings, improve asset performance and increase efficiency.
SWG in partnership with leading FM event, Facilities Show, has called upon industry experts to decipher what the consensus is regarding BIM.
